Seminar-Workshop: A seminar on Random Matrices – 28 Feb 2024
Type: Seminar-Workshop – Seminar
Event Date: 28 Feb 2024
Venue: RKMVERI, Belur Main Campus
Campus: Belur Campus
Department: Computer Science
A seminar titled ‘The journey of random matrices’ was organised on Wednesday, 28 February, 2024 from 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm at MB 307.
Speaker: Prof. Arijit Chakrabarty, a faculty member of the Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Unit at ISI, Kolkata
Abstract:
The study of random matrices started with Wishart's investigations of sample covariance matrices. They became important with Wigner's surmise which connected random matrices with nuclear physics. Since then, the field has been growing, with landmark contributions of Mehta, Dyson, Tracy, Widom, to mention a few. This talk will go over the journey of the subject. Recent developments in the field will also be talked about towards the end.
